D1 Hockey Wins In Overtime Against Midland

ALBERT LEA, MN – The Waldorf D1 hockey team bounced back for the second game against the Midland Warriors on Saturday afternoon. In a thrilling overtime game, Waldorf scored in the last three seconds to win 2-1.
1st Period: Waldorf opened the game with a quick goal within the first 20 seconds. Morgan Sweeney (SR/Hastings, MN) found the back of the net on a power-play against Midland, Luke Nemeth (FR/Ames, IA) and Jake Lindblom (SR/Pine City, MN) were credited on the assists.
Both teams saw five penalties in the 1st period. Midland had 18 shots on goal and Waldorf had 7.
2nd Period: Midland tied the game by scoring halfway through the period. Waldorf was able to hold Midland with only 10 shots on goal and Waldorf had 8. Midland also saw 2 penalties.
3rd Period: Despite Midland having 18 shots on goal, Waldorf goalie Jordan Berschiminsky (JR/Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) saved them all to help force overtime. Waldorf had 2 penalties with only 3 shots on goal.
OT: At 4:57, Nemeth scored the game winning goal with Devin Carney (FR/Wasilla, AK) on the assist.
Berschiminsky finished with 47 saves.
The Waldorf D1 hockey team will now have a month break. After the new year, the Warriors will be on the road for a weekend series against Dakota College at Bottineau starting on Saturday, January 6th. Puck drop is at 7:30 pm.
