D1 Hockey Falls to Bearcats 3-2
ALBERT LEA, MN – The Waldorf D1 hockey team finished the conference weekend series against the McKendree Bearcats on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors tried to make a comeback to force overtime, but ultimately lost 3-2.
The Bearcats found the back of the net late in the first period with an unassisted goal. McKendree scored again, just three minutes later, to extend their lead 2-0.
With under one minute left in the first period, Morgan Sweeney (SR/Hastings, MN) scored for the Warriors, assisted by Chayse Haberman (SR/Minot, ND).
In the second period, the Bearcats scored the game-winning goal on a power-play against the Warriors.
Brandon McDonald (FR/Winnipeg, MB) scored with under 30 seconds left in the third period, unassisted and shorthanded, but the Bearcats won 3-2.
Waldorf goalkeeper, Jordan Berschiminsky (JR/Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) finished the game with 32 saves.
Next up for the D1 hockey team is an away weekend against Minot State starting on Friday, October 13th.
