Warriors Battle a 2-2 Draw against the Flames at Home
FOREST CITY, IA – The Waldorf women's soccer team competed in a conference home game against the College of Saint Mary (NE) Flames on Tuesday evening which resulted in an exciting 2-2 draw.
Iveth Guzman (SR/Mission, TX) scored the first goal for the Warriors, assisted by Maria Gonzalez (SR/Turlock, CA) to take an early lead.
The Flames saw a number of opportunities that were ultimately saved by Waldorf goalkeeper Samantha Linteo (SR/Napa, CA). At the 39th minute, the Flames tied the game to end the first half.
In the second half, the Flames scored the go-ahead goal off of a corner kick within the first 10 minutes.
Olivia Cross (JR/Coventry, England) tied the game, unassisted, in the 78th minute. The remainder of the game was neck-and-neck as both teams tried to score the game winning goal, but the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
Linteo finished the game with 11 saves.
"Tonight feels like a victory for us with how hard we have played the last few weeks verse highly ranked and undefeated teams," stated Head Coach Thomas Goodman. "We earned the point tonight and are already working on preparing for the game against Jamestown on Thursday. It was great to have President Alsop and parents filling the stands to support these warriors."
The women's soccer teams have a quick turnaround with another conference game on Thursday, September 28th at 7:30 pm at Bolstorff Field.
