Waldorf Volleyball Battles Hard in Conference Match Against Northwestern
FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Waldorf University volleyball team continued conference play on Wednesday, September 24, facing off against a strong Northwestern College team. Despite a competitive effort on their home court, the Warriors fell in straight sets (11-25, 13-25, 21-25) to the Red Raiders.
After a fast start by Northwestern in the opening sets, Waldorf responded with renewed energy in the third, showing grit and determination. The Warriors pushed the pace and kept the score tight, battling point for point before the Red Raiders closed out the match.
Several Warriors delivered standout performances on the night. Offensively, Anna Longhenry and Peyton Klooster led the way with 7 kills apiece. Emily Soukup added 6 kills and anchored the defense at the net with a team-high 3 blocks. In the backcourt, McKenna Marlow recorded 10 digs, with Alexis Hiracheta close behind at 7. At the service line, Rina Maiava registered 2 aces, while Klooster added another.
A major milestone was achieved by junior setter Reinya Balderson, who reached 1,000 career assists during the match, marking the exact achievement with 16 assists on the night. The Warriors also saw strong contributions off the bench, including Kaci Johnson, who stepped in during the third set to tally 1 kill, 1 dig, and a block assist.
With the result, Waldorf moves to 8-5 overall on the season. The Warriors will look to build on this experience as they head to Yankton, South Dakota, to take on Mount Marty University on Saturday, September 27.
