Waldorf Volleyball Drop Hard-Fought Match to Doane Tigers
Forest City, Iowa – The Waldorf University Warriors Women's Volleyball team faced a tough setback Friday evening, falling 3-1 to the visiting Doane Tigers in a conference match at Hanson Fieldhouse.
The Warriors came out strong, dominating the opening set with a decisive 25-14 win, showcasing sharp offensive execution and strong teamwork. However, momentum shifted as Doane regrouped and edged out Waldorf in the next three sets — 25-20, 26-24, and 25-16 — to seal the match victory.
Despite the loss, several Warriors delivered standout performances. Anna Longhenry led the offense with 9 kills, followed closely by Sydney Kidd and Jalyn Hovenga, who each made key contributions. On defense, Peyton Klooster was a force at the net with 6 blocks, supported by Longhenry and Emily Soukup. McKenna Marlow anchored the back row with a team-high 17 digs, while Rina Maiava added pressure from the service line with 3 aces.
One of the night's highlights was Jalyn Hovenga's impressive .538 hitting percentage, a testament to her efficiency and precision at the net. Additionally, Kaylin Koch played a key role in the fourth set, bringing energy and helping maintain team morale during a difficult stretch.
The loss brings Waldorf's season record to 8-7, as they quickly turn their focus to their next match. The Warriors return to action on Saturday, October 4, hosting Hastings College in another home conference battle — a special night as the program celebrates Alumni Night. With adjustments and renewed focus, the team is eager to bounce back and defend their home court in front of past and present Warriors fans.
