OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Waldorf ACHA Division I hockey team opened their 2024-25 season Friday and Saturday with a two-game series in Oklahoma to battle the Sooners. Waldorf played Oklahoma tough, but lost both games.
Friday, Oklahoma shutout Waldorf, 3-0. The Warriors had their chances though, pelting the Sooners' netminder with 41 shots. None of them were unable to get through though. Oklahoma scored their first goal, five minutes into the contest. After a scoreless second period, Oklahoma added two in third to cement the win. Matthew Loney was great in net for Waldorf, saving 34 Sooners' shots.
Saturday's contest went down to the wire. Oklahoma scored first, nearly six minutes into the game. Waldorf tied the game later in the first. Cale Anderson scored on assists from Anthony Pileggi and Geoffrey Dick. The Sooners scored the only goal of the second period to take a 2-1 lead. Oklahoma extended the lead to 3-1 with a goal 6:47 into the period. Just over three minutes later, Waldorf pulled within one after the first career goal from Audun Caple with an assist from Dominic Toews. Waldorf had chances down the stretch, but were unable to find the equalizer and fell 3-2. Vaughn Holbeche saved 37 shots in net for Waldorf.
Waldorf (0-2) next plays at Northern Illinois September 27-28.
