Waldorf Baseball Opens Season with Doubleheader at Sterling College
The Waldorf baseball team opened their season with a double header at Sterling College. The Warriors won the first game 4-3 and lost the second 2-3.
In Game 1, the Warriors scored two runs in the 4th inning by RBIs from freshman Robert Gurney (Campbell River, BC/College of the Desert) and senior Matthew Ferreira (Spring Creek, NV/Columbia Basin CC), runs were scored by sophomore Ryan Webster (Las Vegas, NV/Sierra College) and junior Zach Meyer (Gilbert, AZ/St. Ambrose University).
Sterling College took the lead in the 6th inning by scoring three runs.
In the 7th inning, senior Davis Churchman (Ankeny, IA/Iowa State University) stole second and junior Juan Jorge (Bronx, NY/Monroe College) scored to tie the game 3-3. Meyer had an RBI single allowing Churchman to score the winning run.
Junior Ryan Meyer (Gilbert, AZ/Northeastern CC) started pitching for the Warriors and pitched 5.2 innings with four strikeouts.
For game 2, the Warriors started off by getting two runs in the 3rd inning. Churchman had an RBI triple and sophomore Atticus Smith (Kent, WA/Kentlake HS) had an RBI single getting Ferreira and Churchman to score.
Sterling College tied the game in the 4th inning and won the game in the 7th inning.
Senior Marc Luna (Alvin, TX/Grambling State) pitched 4.0 innings with five strikeouts and junior Trevor Brace (Murrieta, CA/Graceland University) pitched 2.1 innings with three strikeouts.
The Warriors will play Sterling College for another doubleheader tomorrow starting at 11 a.m.
