Waldorf Use 3-Run Eighth to Overtake Dakota Wesleyan, Completes Sweep Over Midland

KANSAS CITY, MO – The Warriors proved crooked numbers are where it is at on the diamond. Waldorf University pushed across three runs in the top of the eighth and used it to overtake Dakota Wesleyan Sunday afternoon, 7-4, before it completed the sweep with a 9-2 victory over Midland University.
Tied at 4-4 with two runners on and two outs in the top of the eighth, Rylee Rauch sliced a two-run single to clear the bases and Kolby Amaral followed by driving home Rauch for a 7-4 Waldorf lead. Jamie Olson allowed two singles in the bottom of the eighth before he struck out the next three Dakota Wesleyan hitters to end the contest.
At the time of writing, there were no further details of the Waldorf (7-4) win over Midland.
Rauch led the 11-hit Warrior attack with a 3 for 5 day with a double and two singles, two runs, two RBI and a stolen base. Ryan Miller posted a 2 for 2 day with a double and single with a RBI and one walk. Ian Carr lined a pair of singled with a RBI, a run and a stolen base, while Tyler Wytulka had two hits with a run. Amaral added a sac fly along with his run-scoring single. Atticus Smith and Ryan Meyer had one hit apiece.
Olson came on in relief and worked the last four innings where he allowed six hits, walked one and struck out five for his his third win of the season.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first frame, the Warriors edge ahead in the visiting third. Carr and Rauch led off the at bats with singles before Amaral lofted his sac fly for the first run. Smith plated the second run of inning with a fielder's choice bun RBI while Miller finished the scoring off with a RBI double and 3-2 lead.
Tied at 3-3 after five innings, Miller led off for Waldorf with a single in the sixth and raced home three batters later on a Carr single for a 4-3 advantage.
Waldorf will now have a week off before if faces Dakota Wesleyan in a doubleheader starting at 10:30 a.m. next Sunday (March 3).
