Waldorf Baseball Beats No. 5 Bellevue 5-4
BELLEVUE, NE – The Waldorf baseball team was back in action for an away NSAA conference weekend series against No. 5 Bellevue. The Warriors beat the Bruins in game two 5-4 giving them their first conference loss and then lost the first 2-3.
Bellevue started game two with a 0-2 lead through the first four innings.
Juan Jorge (JR/Bronx, NY) got an RBI double to get Ryan Webster (JR/Gilbert, AZ) to score. Davis Churchman (SR/Ankeny, IA) continued the momentum with an RBI single allowed Jorge to tie the game 2-2.
Damien Sanchez (JR/Riverside, CA) came up big with a two-run homerun to go ahead 4-2 to close out the 5th inning.
The Bruins scored back-to-back homeruns to tie the game in the 6th inning.
The Warriors forced the game to go to an 8th inning where they won the game from Atticus Smith (SO/Kent, WA) getting an RBI single getting Zach Meyer to score the game winning run.
Marc Luna (SR/Alvin, TX) pitched five innings and finished with three strikeouts and two walks. Jamie Olson (SO/Menifee, CA) closed the game to secure the win with two strikeouts, zero walks, no runs, and no errors.
This marks the first win for Waldorf baseball against Bellevue since May 1st of the 2020-2021 season where they won 10-7 at Bellevue.
For the first game, Churchman started the game with a homerun in the top of the 4th inning. Smith scored the second run from a sacrifice fly out from Ryan Webster in the 5th inning to extend the 2-0 lead.
The Bruins scored in the 6th inning and tied the game in the 7th off a Warrior throwing error.
The Bruins won the game with a walk-off homerun.
Ryan Meyer (JR/Gilbert, AZ) pitched eight innings and finished with four strikeouts and two walks.
The Warriors will have another doubleheader tomorrow against the Bruins starting at 12 p.m.
