Warriors Drop Home-Opening DH to Bellevue
FOREST CITY, Iowa - The Waldorf baseball team faced a tough opponent in their home opener in No. 13 Bellevue. The Warriors competed well, but dropped the NSAA doubleheader Friday.
After allowing a run in the top of the first, Rylee Rauch quickly tied the game with a lead-off home run to center. It was his second home run of the season. Bellevue regained the lead with two in the top of the second. The Bruins extended their lead to 7-1 in the sixth inning. Kolby Amaral delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth. Bellevue would take the opener, 7-2. Rauch had three of Waldorf's five hits and scored both of the team's runs. In his first outing of the season, Bernardo Cortez allowed only one run and one hit in two innings on the mound.
In the second game, Bellevue jumped out to a 9-2 lead after two innings. Waldorf chipped away at the lead the rest of the game. In the fifth, Amaral hit a two-run home run to center to cut Bellevue's lead to 11-5. The Bruins took a 12-6 lead into the ninth inning. The first three Warrior batters all singled to lead off. With the bases loaded, Zach Meyer drove in a pair with a single to left. Waldorf loaded the bases again with the potential tying run at the plate, but a fly out ended the rally and the game. Rauch had two more hits in the second game. Atticus Smith went 4-for-5 including a home run. Alex Tallman pitched three scoreless innings in relief.
Waldorf (11-15, 1-5 in NSAA) hosts Bellevue for another doubleheader Saturday. First game starts at noon.
