Waldorf Baseball Split at College of the Ozarks

POINT LOOKOUT, MO – The Waldorf baseball team closed out their weekend non-conference series against College of the Ozarks for a doubleheader. The Warriors took game one 9-7, but lost a close game two, 4-5.
Robert Gurney (FR/Campbell River, BC) got things rolling for the Warriors by scoring the first run in the top of the 3rdinning from a sacrifice fly out from Nathan Westfield (SO/Indian Harbor Beach, FL).
Damien Sanchez (JR/Riverside, CA) kept the momentum with a single getting Atticus Smith and Matthew Ferreira (SR/Spring Creek, NV) to score. Thomas Capllonch (SR/Kailua, HI) reached first base on an error which also got Sanchez to score.
Ryan Meyer (JR/Gilbert, AZ) got an RBI single with Capllonch scoring the fifth run for the Warriors.
The Bobcats responded in the bottom of the 3rd with a three-run homer.
Sanchez got his third RBI with Ferreira scoring in the 4th inning. Ryan Webster (SO/Las Vegas, NV) kept the hot bat with a single allowing Sanchez and Westfield to score moving the score 8-3.
In the 7th inning, Ferreira doubled which got Anthony Hibl (JR/Sharon, WI) to home plate for the final run for the Warriors.
The Bobcats scored four runs in the bottom of the 7th, but the Warrior defense and pitching secured the win.
Marc Luna (SR/Alvin, TX) pitched six innings with four strikeouts and got the win. Trevor Brace (JR/Murrieta, CA) closed out the 7th inning with three strikeouts and zero walks. Ferreira and Sanchez had three at-bats with two hits. The team had 11 hits.
For the second game, the Warriors kept their momentum by taking a 4-0 lead throughout the first five innings.
Sanchez scored on sacrifice fly out from Webster to get the first run to start the game.
Capllonch got an RBI single in the top of the 3rd allowing Davis Churchman (SR/Ankeny, IA) to get the second run.
Smith scored the third run in the 4th from a sacrifice fly out from Ferreira and Churchman scored his second run, the fourth for the Warriors in the 5th inning.
The Bobcats scored their first run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 6th along with a two run RBI single. They tied the game at four and then won the game with a single to right field.
Zach Meyer pitched 5.1 innings and finished with six strikeouts. Skyler Yarborough (JR/The Colony, TX) and Jake Petty (JR/Corsicana, TX) finished out the game. Gurney had two hits on two at-bats for the Warriors.
Next up for the Warriors is a doubleheader at US Bank Stadium against Mount Marty starting at 10:30 a.m.
