Warriors Win Big Against Vikings
FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Waldorf baseball team was back in action for what was scheduled to be an away conference series that turned into a home series against Valley City State. The Warriors won both games, 25-20 and 17-4.
In the first game, the Warriors started with Thomas Capllonch (SR/Kailua, HI) getting an RBI double with Davis Churchman (SR/Ankeny, IA) scoring the first run. The Vikings tied the game in the bottom of the inning.
Zach Meyer (JR/Gilbert, AZ) hit a homerun in the top of the 3rd to take the lead. The Vikings hit a two-run homerun of their own to go up 2-3.
Juan Jorge (JR/Bronx, NY) got an RBI single with Ryan Webster (SO/Las Vegas, NV) scoring to tie the game. Valley City responded with back-to-back homeruns to retake the lead 3-6.
In the top of the 6th inning, Webster and Jake Petty (JR/Corsicana, TX) scored before the Vikings get five runs in the bottom of the inning.
The Warriors came out strong in the 7th inning by scoring seven runs to take the lead 12-11. The Vikings added two more runs in the bottom of the inning.
In the 8th inning, the Warriors added eight runs and then kept the Vikings from scoring to be up 20-13.
The Warriors scored five runs in the top of the 9th and the Vikings scored seven to end the game. The Warriors won 25-20.
Ryan Meyer (JR/Gilbert, AZ) started the game on the mound and pitched six innings. Meyer finished with 11 strikeouts and one walk. Jamie Olson (SO/Menifee, CA) pitched two innings with three strikeouts and zero walks. Gunnar Huffman (FR/Robinson, TX) closed out the game with two strikeouts.
Damien Sanchez (JR/Riverside, CA) led the offense with seven RBIs and Capllonch and Jorge each added four.
For game two, Churchman lead off with a homerun and Atticus Smith (SO/Kent, WA) came up with a three-run homerun to give the Warriors a 4-0 lead.
In the top of the 3rd inning, Webster hit a grand slam for the Warriors. The Vikings scored their first run in the bottom of the inning.
Webster started the 4th inning with an RBI single and Matthew Ferreira (SR/Spring Creek, NV) came up with a three-run homerun. Valley City responded with a homerun of their own.
Ferreira got an RBI double in the 6th inning to extend the lead and Churchman closed the inning out with another grand slam. The Vikings added two more runs to end the game. The Warriors won 17-4.
Marc Luna (SR/Alvin, TX) pitched six innings and finished with 15 strikeouts. Reno Morehouse closed out and finished with two strikeouts.
Churchman and Webster each had five RBIs and Ferreira added four.
The Warriors will return tomorrow for two more games against the Vikings starting at 12 p.m.
