Baseball Gets Comeback Win against Avila
KANSAS CITY, MO – The Waldorf baseball team concluded their non-conference weekend series against Avila University for a one 9-inning game today. After being down by three, the Warriors came back to win 6-3.
The Eagles scored in both the 1st and 2nd inning. In the bottom of the 4th, the Eagles hit a homerun for their last run.
Robert Gurney (FR/Campbell River, BC) had an RBI to start things going for the Warriors getting Thomas Capllonch (SR/Kailua, HI) to score in the 6th inning.
Davis Churchman (SR/Ankeny, IA) got an RBI single getting Ryan Meyer (JR/Gilbert, AZ) to home plate.
In the 8th inning, Atticus Smith (SO/Kent, WA) continued the momentum with an RBI triple allowing Ryan Webster (SO/Las Vegas, NV) to tie the game 3-3. Gurney got his second RBI with a double to get the go ahead run with Smith.
Webster singled to left field for an RBI of Churchman to extend the lead to five. Gurney had a sacrifice fly out to center field for his third RBI of the game getting Capllonch to score the final run.
Zach Meyer (JR/Gilbert, AZ) pitched five innings with six strikeouts and Marc Luna (SR/Alvin, TX) received the win for the last four innings having nine strikeouts.
Next up for the Warriors is a four game weekend series against College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri. First game is on Friday, March 3rd starting at 1 p.m. with a 3 p.m. game to follow.
