Warriors Three Big Innings Equal Season-Opening Win

MILLINGTON, Tenn. – The Warriors produced timely hits, had a good eye and took advantage of opponent's miscues Saturday. Waldorf University used three big innings to score 17 runs and rode the runs to a season-opening baseball win over Midway University, 20-6 in seven innings.
Tied 3-3 heading into the top of the fourth, the Warriors (1-0) saw five runners touch home plate with a Kolby Amaral two-run double as the big hit and they led the rest of the contest. Atticus Smith sliced his own two-RBI double in the fifth as part of six-run at bat and Juan Jorge drove in the final pair with another double in the seven. Trevor Brace hit a couple Midway batters, but he didn't allow a hit or a run in the home seventh to finish the game.
Waldorf's offense registered 20 runs on 12 hits and took advantage of taking 17 walks and four Midway fielding errors. Leading the effort, Rylee Rauch singled three times, scored twice and had an RBI. Amaral doubled twice, scored three times and drove in three, while Smith doubled, singled, drove in three, score a run and swiped a pair of bases. Jorge doubled and singled with two runs and two RBI. Robert Gurney blasted the team's first round-tripper with a two-run homer and scored a pair of runs. Ryan Webster also drove in three runs on a single and a sac fly.
On the mound, Ryan Meyer logged the first five frames for the victory where he gave up three earned runs and fanned three.
The Warriors started their scoring with a two-out RBI single from Smith in the first and Gurney's two-run blast in the second.
The two teams' second game of the day was cancelled.
Waldorf and Midway are scheduled for another twinbill on Sunday morning (Feb. 11) starting at 9 a.m.
