Warriors split pair vs. Mayville State

PARKVILLE, Mo. - The Waldorf baseball team concluded its NSAA-opening series with Mayville State. After winning the opener, 6-4, the Warriors fell to the Comets in the nightcap by the same score.
In the opener, Waldorf scored early and often. Kolby Amaral drove in the first run on an RBI single to score Rylee Rauch who started the game with a single. Two batters later, Zach Meyer drove in a pair with a double to right center. Ryan Webster followed with a double of his own to plate Meyer. Webster later scored on a sacrifice fly from Juan Jorge. Waldorf tallied five runs in the opening frame. Meyer was the beneficiary of all the run support. He pitched the first five innings allowing two runs on five hits while striking out four. Mayville State cut the lead to 5-4 after six innings. The Warriors tallied an insurance run in the seventh. Peter Ordonio delivered a two-out, pinch-hit single to score Webster to make it 6-4. Reno Morehouse retired the side in the bottom of the seventh to secure the Warriors first NSAA win of the season.
Mayville jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second game. Waldorf cut into the lead in the fifth with three runs. Meyer delivered a two-RBI single as part of the rally. They cut into the deficit further in the sixth with another run to make it 6-4 Mayville. That's all the further they would get as the Comets held on to win by that score.
Meyer had a sensational all-around day with five hits over the two contests plus collecting the win on the mound in the opener. Skylar Yarborough had a solid effort in relief in the second game pitching shutout ball over 4 2/3 and striking out four.
Waldorf (11-13, 1-3 in NSAA) are scheduled to host Bellevue in their home opener next Friday.
