SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - In a series with many schedule changes due to rain, the Waldorf baseball team closed out regular season play before the NSAA Tournament next weekend.
The four-game series at Dakota State was reduced to a three-game set and was moved from Madison, South Dakota to the Sanford Sports Complex in Sioux Falls. Dakota State took all three games from Waldorf Saturday.
The Trojans took the opener, 4-0. Despite the loss, starting pitcher Ryan Meyer was spectacular on the mound. He struck out 10 batters and allowed only two earned runs over six innings. Dakota State's Sam Tyrpa was good as well, striking out 10 Waldorf batters in the complete game win. Zach Meyer had two hits for the Warriors.
Dakota State won game two, 8-1 as they scored multiple runs in the second, fifth, and sixth innings. Waldorf got their run in the fourth inning. Kolby Amaral started the inning with a double down the left field line. Two batters later, Atticus Smith drove him in with a single to left. Waldorf loaded the bases with two outs, but a flyout ended the threat. Robert Gurney had two hits for Waldorf. Kade Hobbs started on the mound and struck out five Trojans over 4 1/3 innings.
Dakota State shutout Waldorf again in game three. Smith got the lone hit for Waldorf with a lead-off single in the seventh. Zach Meyer started on the mound for Waldorf and struck out five over six innings.
Waldorf (19-26, 9-14 in NSAA) next plays at the NSAA Tournament May 3-6 at Dickinson State.
