Warriors Use Strong Pitching, Key Hitting in Baseball Sweep

KANSAS CITY, KS – The Warriors used an all-around performance and posted their first sweep of the season. Waldorf University struck early and rode the early runs to a 7-2 win over Midland University, before it used a four-run third inning to key a 10-3 second game victory of Graceland University.
After Atticus Smith drove the first run home, Ryan Miller started his big day with a two-run double to right field for a 3-0 Warrior lead in the opening at bat. Waldorf added single tallies in each of the next four frames, including a two-out Miller solo round-tripper in the fifth. Zack Meyer took it from there on the mound as he went the full seven-inning distance as he scattered six hits with two earned runs while he fanned nine.
Trailing 2-0 in the home second of the late game, Juan Jorge tied the contest on a RBI single. It was the third frame, which won it for Waldorf. With one out, Tyler Wytulka doubled home Kolby Amaral to edge ahead, 3-2. Smith blasted a two-run homer as the next hitter before Miller connected on his second homer of the day, a solo shot, to complete the four-run at bat and 6-2 tally. Waldorf added a single score in the fourth and three in the sixth before Trevor Brace finished on the mound for Gunnar Huffman.
Miller paced the Warriors' 21-hit attack in the 14 innings. He was 4 for 7 with a double, two home runs, three runs and five RBI. Wytulka finished 3 for 7 with three runs, two doubles and a RBI. Ian Carr also registered a trio of hits with two doubles and single with two runs, while Smith hit a two-run homer, a single and four RBI. Anthony Hibl drove in two on two hits, while all of Rylee Rauch, Ryan Webster and Jorge singled two times.
Along with Meyer in the first game, Huffman was solid in the second where he logged five innings of work and allowed only three hits, one earned run and struck out three. Brace covered the final two frames and allowed a run and four hits with two strikeouts.
