Benedictine Takes Opening Pair from Waldorf

ATCHISON, KS – The Warriors returned to the diamond Sunday. In the opening day of the four-game series, Benedictine University took both ends of the first two games of the baseball series, 6-4 and 7-1, from Waldorf University.
Trailing 5-0 after three innings, the Warriors (2-3) battled back with Tyler Wytulka RBI single in the fourth and a Rylee Rauch two-run homer in the fifth to cut the deficit to 5-3. After a Ravens one run in the home fifth, the Warriors answered with back-to-back triples from Wytulka and Reno Morehouse for a 6-4 tally. Waldorf, though, stranded Morehouse in the sixth and could not bring around Ian Carr, who had a leadoff single, in the seventh.
Benedictine put three quick runs on the game two scoreboard in the first frame. It added one in the fourth and a pair in the fifth for a 6-0 advantage. A Rauch lead-off walk led to him racing home on an Atticus Smith two-bagger, but it proved to be all the Waldorf offense was able to produce.
Rauch led the Warriors with two-run home run, a single and three runs for the two games. Wytulka registered a triple and two singles with an RBI. Carr doubled and singled with a run in the opener, while Kolby Amaral singled twice. Morehouse and Robert Gurney added extra-base hits with a triple and a double. Zach Meyer and Peter Ordino, as a pinch hitter, rounded out the effort with singles.
Waldorf will wrap up its four-game series on Monday afternoon (Feb. 19) in a 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. doubleheader at Benedictine.
