FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Waldorf baseball team returned to their home field for an NSAA conference series against Mayville State. The Warriors won both games extending their run to six in row as well as 12 regular season home wins straight, continuing from last season.
In the first game, the Warriors scored half of their runs in the 1st inning. Thomas Capllonch (SR/Kailua, HI) started with an RBI double with Davis Churchman (SR/Ankeny, IA) scoring. Zach Meyer (JR/Gilbert, AZ) got a two run RBI single getting Capllonch and Damien Sanchez (JR/Riverside, CA) to home plate. Robert Gurney (FR/Campbell River, BC) and Juan Jorge (JR/Bronx, NY) both got RBI singles allowing Atticus Smith (SO/Kent, WA) and Nathan Westfield (SO/Indian Harbor Beach, FL) to get end the inning 5-0.
Ryan Webster (SO/Las Vegas, NV) continued the momentum in the 2nd inning with a three-run homerun to make the score 8-0 and Capllonch got a homerun in the 6th inning.
The Comets scored a homerun of their own in the 7th inning. Anthony Hibl (JR/Sharon, WI) scored the final run for the Warriors off of a single from Sanchez in the bottom of the inning.
To close out the first game, the Comets score off of a sacrifice fly out. The Warriors won 10-2.
Ryan Meyer (JR/Gilbert, AZ) pitched all nine innings and finished with seven strikeouts and zero walks.
For the second game, the Warriors started off strong and score first. Z. Meyer opened with a two-run homerun to take an early lead in the 1st inning.
The Comets answered with an RBI single which was their only run of the game.
The Warriors had three straight homeruns in three straight innings. Jorge had a two-run homer, Webster had a three-run, and Churchman had the third.
Matthew Ferreira (SR/Spring Creek, WA) got an RBI single in the bottom of the 4th inning getting Sanchez to score.
Z. Meyer got the final hit in the bottom of the 6th with an RBI single allowing Churchman to score. The Warriors won 10-1.
Marc Luna (SR/Alvin, TX) pitched all seven innings with 12 strikeouts, zero walks, and four hits.
The Warriors will play the Comets for another doubleheader tomorrow starting at 12 p.m.
