Baseball Wins over Viterbo and Advance to Second Round
DICKINSON, N.D. – The Waldorf baseball team competed against Viterbo for the first-round matchup of the NSAA Conference tournament. The Warriors split with the V-Hawks in the regular season and won tonight 4-1.
Zach Meyer (JR/Gilbert, AZ) started things for the Warriors in the bottom of the 1st with an RBI single and Damien Sanchez (JR/Riverside, CA) scoring.
In the 3rd inning, Juan Jorge (JR/Bronx, NY) hit a homerun to extend the lead 2-0.
The V-Hawks scored their only run in the top of the 4th inning.
Jorge scored another run off of a V-Hawks error. To close out the game, Atticus Smith (SO/Kent, WA) singled to center field with Sanchez scoring the final run. The Warriors won 4-1.
Ryan Meyer (JR/Gilbert, AZ) started on the mound with two strikeouts, three walks, and only one run. Gunnar Huffman (FR/Robinson, TX) and Gabriel Jaramillo (JR/La Puenta, CA) each pitched an inning.
The Warriors will face No. 2 Dakota State tomorrow at 8 p.m.
