Softball drops opening game of NSAAs
DICKINSON, N.D. - The No. 6 seed Waldorf softball team opened up NSAA Tournament play Friday night against the host No. 3 seed Dickinson State. The Blue Hawks proved too much and defeated the Warriors, 8-0.
Dickinson State scored one in the bottom of the first and then added five in the second to take a 6-0 lead. The Blue Hawks took advantage of a pair of Waldorf errors to help start a big inning.
Waldorf put together a threat in the fourth. Kyleigh Morris started the inning with a single. Two batters later, McKenna Mentink had an infield single. Timber Oakes later walked to load the bases. But a ground out ended the inning and the threat. Dickinson State added a run in the fourth then ended the game in the fifth with a lead-off home run to give the game its final score of 8-0.
Waldorf now moves to the loser's bracket of the double elimination tournament. They will play No. 5 seed Dakota State in the first game Saturday at 11 a.m. central. The loser is eliminated from the tournament. The winner will play again later in the day.
