FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Waldorf softball team returned to their home field for the last regular season weekend for a conference series against Dickinson State. The Warriors lost both games, 7-8 and 7-15.
The Blue Hawks started off the first game by scoring three runs.
The Warriors tied the game in the 2nd inning with Emily Muro (SR/Stanton, CA), Gabby Bierly (FR/Eagan, MN), and Allie Funderburk (FR/Starke, FL) scoring.
In the 3rd inning, the Blue Hawks scored on a ground out RBI to take the lead.
Alyssa Banda (JR/Wasilla, AK) came up with an RBI allowing Bierly to score and tie the game in the bottom of the 5thinning.
The Blue Hawks added two runs in the 6th inning on an error and passed ball.
In the bottom of the inning, Kassidy Elyea (JR/Sioux Falls, SD) got an RBI single getting Brooke Hickey to score. Bierly then reached first on a fielding error allowing Elyea and Kaela Eslinger (JR/Macksburg, IA) to score.
In the 7th inning, the Blue Hawks hit a homerun to tie the game and then won the game in the 9th inning off an RBI single. The Warriors lost 7-8.
For the second game, the Blue Hawks continued with their momentum by scoring three runs in the 1st inning and eight in the 4th.
In the bottom of the 4th, McKenna Mentink (SR/Mason City, IA) started things for the Warriors with an RBI single and Eslinger scoring. Muro and Bierly scored.
Brooke Hickey (SO/Adel, IA) hit a grand slam to give the Warriors seven runs.
The Blue Hawks extended their lead in the 6th and 7th innings to win 15-7.
The Warriors will have another doubleheader against the Blue Hawks tomorrow starting at 12 p.m.
