Waldorf Softball Competes at Dordt Dome Tournament

The Waldorf softball team was back in action for a doubleheader at the Dordt Dome Tournament. The Warriors lost both games, 1-7 and 2-8.
In the first game, the Warriors played Morningside. Kassidy Elyea (JR/Sioux Falls, SD) scored the only run for the Warriors in the top of the 3rd inning by an RBI from Emily Muro (SR/Stanton, CA).
The Mustangs went on to score four straight runs in the bottom of the 3rd, two in the fifth and and their last unearned run in the 6th.
Alex Mathers (SR/Greene, IA) and Maddie Dalke (JR/Medford, OR) pitched for the Warriors.
For game 2, the Warriors played against host school Dordt. The Defenders came out strong by scoring seven straight runs.
In the top of the 6th, Kierra Lynn Shulz (JR/Lena, IL) got things going for the Warriors by getting an RBI sacrifice fly out to right field allowing Sydney Boyd (SR/Aiea, HI) to score.
Kaela Eslinger (JR/Macksburg, IA) kept the momentum with an RBI single getting Paige Pierson (SO/Cambridge, IA) to get another run.
The Defenders scored the final run in the bottom of the 6th to take the win.
McKenna Mentink (SR/Mason City, IA) pitched five innings for the Warriors with two strikeouts and Pierson closed out with one inning.
The Warriors have another doubleheader tomorrow, starting with Northwestern at 2 p.m. followed by College of Saint Mary at 4 p.m.
