Waldorf Softball Finished Day 1 at Friends University Tournament with Split

WICHITA, KS – The Waldorf softball team returned to the field for a doubleheader at the Friends University Tournament at the Two Rivers Complex. The Warriors split on the day, taking game one 7-4 against Peru State and then losing 0-9 to Doane.
The Bobcats were first to score in the bottom of the 2nd inning by getting two runs, one being unearned.
Brooke Hickey (SO/Adel, IA) responded with a homerun and Kaela Eslinger (JR/Macksburg, IA) got a 2-run homer. A Bobcat error allowed Emily Muro (SR/Stanton, CA) and Maddie Dalke (JR/Medford, CA) to score. The Warriors were up 5-2 at the top of the 3rd.
Hickey doubled to center field to get Annah Sheffield (JR/Sheffield, AL) and Dalke to home plate in the 7th. The Bobcats added two more runs, but the Warriors won 7-4.
Alex Mathers (SR/Greene, IA) pitched a full game with seven strikeouts and only two walks. Hickey had a team high of three RBIs with going 3-2 from the plate.
For game two, the first two innings remained scoreless. The Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the 3rd to take the lead. In the 5th inning, the Tigers added four runs and, in the 6th, the scored two more. The Warriors were limited to just two hits.
Waldorf softball will be back for another doubleheader at the Friends Tournament tomorrow starting with Missouri Valley at 12 p.m. followed by MidAmerica Nazarene at 4 p.m.
