Softball Drops First Game of NSAA Tournament to Blue Hawks
DICKINSON, N.D. – The Waldorf softball team started the NSAA conference tournament with a first-round matchup against Dickinson State. The Warriors were able to tie the game 4-4 but fell 4-9.
The Blue Hawks scored four runs in the 1st inning.
Paige Pierson (SO/Cambridge, IA) got a two-run RBI double allowing Annah Sheffield (JR/Sheffield, AL) and Gabby Bierly (FR/Eagan, MN) to score in the 2nd inning.
Sheffield came up with an RBI single getting Emily Muro (SR/Stanton, CA) to cross home plate and McKenna Mentink (SR/Mason City, IA) followed with another RBI single and Bierly tying the game 4-4 in the top of the 3rd inning.
The Blue Hawks responded with one single and two double RBIs to take the lead 4-7 in the bottom of the 3rd. In the 6th inning, the Blue Hawks extended their lead with two more runs to win 4-9.
Mentink and Maddie Dalke (JR/Medford, OR) pitched for the Warriors. Dalke had two strikeouts and zero walks. Bierly went 3-3 and had two runs.
The Warriors will compete against Viterbo tomorrow at 11 a.m. to stay alive in the tournament.
