Warriors snap skid; top Dakota State

MADISON, S.D. - Waldorf smashed 31 hits over an NSAA softball doubleheader Saturday at Dakota State. The Warriors were able to snap a losing skid with a win in the second game.
Waldorf delivered 14 hits in the opener Saturday but were on the wrong side of a 10-6 setback to the Trojans. Dakota State scored two runs in the first inning. Waldorf and Dakota State exchanged single runs in innings 2-4. A Timber Oakes home run in the sixth inning cut the Dakota State lead to 5-4. But DSU five in the bottom of the sixth to take a 10-4 lead and they would go on to win from there. Five different Warriors had two hits in the game.
The Warriors jumped out to an early lead in game two. Gabby Bierly and Brooke Hickey had base hits to start the game. Kyleigh Morris started a two-out rally with a single to score Bierly. With two runners on, Madison Clark belted a three-run home run to left to give Waldorf a 4-0 lead. The Warriors added two more in the second. Kaela Eslinger and Haley Ehlert had RBI base hits to give Waldorf a 6-1 lead. They would another run in the third to take a 7-1 edge. Dakota State made it close in the late innings. They scored one in the fifth and four in the sixth to trim Waldorf's lead to 7-6. The Warriors added some insurance runs in the seventh with five runs. Hickey and Eslinger had big RBI doubles in the frame. Eslinger, Clark, and Maddie Dalke each had three hits as part of a Waldorf 17-hit attack.
Waldorf (5-25, 4-13 in NSAA) completes the four-game series with a doubleheader Sunday at Dakota State.
