JAMESTOWN, N.D. - The Waldorf softball team collected their first two wins in conference play as they split a four-game set against Mayville State.
The series was shifted from Mayville, N.D. to the Jamestown Dome. Friday's games didn't begin until after 9 p.m. Waldorf collected 11 hits in the opener, including a 3-for-4 performance from Madison Clark, but the Warriors dropped a 6-5 decision to the Comets.
Waldorf rebounded nicely in the second game Friday night with a 6-1 win. The Warriors collected half of their runs in the third inning. The big hit was a two-RBI single from Maddie Dalke. Makenzie Cope and Alyssa Oswald combined for a great effort in the circle. They held Mayville to one run on six hits. Oswald gave up only one hit over four innings.
The Warriors used that late-night momentum into Saturday's day games. They tallied two runs in the top of the first in the opener. Brooke Hickey and Haley Ehlert delivered RBI singles in the frame. Mayville State tied it in the fourth, but the Warriors regained their lead in the fifth. Ehlert drove in another run with a single to center. Dalke followed with an RBI single of her own. Dalke went the distance in the circle, only allowing two hits and striking out four in the 4-2 win.
Mayville held off a late Warriors rally to take the fourth game of the series, 6-4.
Waldorf (3-15, 2-5 in NSAA) is next scheduled to play at Dickinson State April 6-7.
