Softball loses two at Dakota State
MADISON, S.D. - The Waldorf softball team closed out their four-game NSAA series Sunday with a doubleheader at Dakota State. After splitting two Saturday, Dakota State took both Sunday to win the series.
The Warriors were stymied by Dakota State pitcher Delaney Barrett in the opener. Waldorf scattered five hits thoughout the game and weren't able to get any runs to cross in a 6-0 setback. Gabby Bierly had three of the five Waldorf hits. Kaela Eslinger and Haley Ehlert collected the other hits. McKenna Mentink struck out eight Trojan batters.
Waldorf was able to score first in the second game. In the first inning, Eslinger started a two-out threat with a single to left. Ehlert reached on an error and Kyleigh Morris followed with a single to load the bases. A Madison Clark single scored Eslinger to give Waldorf a 1-0 lead. Dakota State countered though with three in their half of the first. They extended the lead to 5-1 after five innings. In the sixth, Brooke Hickey laced a one-out double to left center. Eslinger followed with a triple to the right center field gap. A ground out and a pop out ended the rally. Waldorf could not score in the seventh, ending the contest 5-2 in favor of Dakota State.
Waldorf (5-27, 4-15 in NSAA) returns home for a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday against Graceland.
