Warriors Beat Comets at Home
FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Waldorf softball team completed their conference series against Mayville State with a sweep, winning 7-0 and 6-3.
The Warriors got an early lead by scoring two runs in the 1st inning. Runs were scored by Paige Pierson (SO/Cambride, IA) and Brooke Hickey (SO/Adel, IA).
In the 2nd inning, Kyleigh Morris (JR/Papillion, NE) got an RBI triple getting Gabby Bierly (FR/Eagan, MN) to score. Hickey followed with an RBI single with Morris getting the next run.
Kaela Eslinger (JR/Macksburg, IA) scored the next run in the 5th inning from an RBI single by Devrie Johnston (FR/Lloydminster, Alberta). Maddie Dalke (JR/Medford, OR) then got a sacrifice flyout allowing Johnston to score.
The final run came in the 6th inning with an RBI double by Hickey and Annah Sheffield (JR/Sheffield, AL) scored. The Warriors won 7-0.
Dalke pitched a complete game with two strikeouts and no walks. Hickey led the offense with four at-bats with three hits, two RBIs, and one run. Morris went 2-2 with one RBI and one run.
In the second game, the Comets scored first in the top of the 3rd inning from an RBI single.
Dalke responded with an RBI single getting Hickey to tie the game. Bierly and Sydney Boyd (SR/Aiea, HI) scored off of a fielding error by the Comets to take the lead 3-1.
The Comets tied the game by scoring in the 4th and 5th inning.
In the bottom of the 5th inning, Sheffield got an RBI double with Emily Muro (SR/Stanton, CA) scoring the go-ahead run. Kassidy Elyea (JR/Sioux Falls, SD) and Hickey came up with back-to-back RBI singles. The Warriors won 6-3.
McKenna Mentink (SR/Mason City, IA) started pitching and through three innings, she finished with two strikeouts. Alyssa Oswald (JR/Wasilla, AK) pitched the final four innings and finished with five strikeouts.
Next up for the Warriors a home mid-week conference doubleheader against Viterbo. First pitch is on Wednesday, April 12th at 2 p.m.
