Warriors Battle Hard on Day 2 of Friends University Tournament

WICHITA, KS – The Waldorf softball team closed out the Friends University tournament for another doubleheader against Missouri Valley and MidAmerica Nazarene. The Warriors lost both, 6-7 and 3-14.
The Warriors started off strong right away in the top of the 1st inning with Kassidy Elyea (JR/Sioux Falls, SD) and Allie Funderburk (FR/Starke, FL) had RBI singles with Gabby Bierly (FR/Eagan, MN) and Kierra Lynn Shulz (JR/Lena, IL) scoring.
Kaela Eslinger (JR/Macksburg, IA) scored on a passed ball to extend the lead 3-0 in the top of the 4th.
The Vikings tied the game in the bottom of the 4th inning.
The Warriors took the lead in the 5th inning with Shulz getting an RBI single to get Brooke Hickey (SO/Adel, IA) to home plate. Paige Pierson (SO/Cambridge, IA) scored on a wild pitch.
The Vikings came up big with scoring four runs in the bottom of the 5th.
Hickey got an RBI single to allow Eslinger to score, but the Warriors fell 6-7.
Bierly had two hits on three at-bats.
For the second game, the Warriors had a strong start with Eslinger opening with a two-run homerun to take an early lead.
The Pioneers responded with scoring seven runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. MidAmerica Nazarene kept the momentum going with scoring seven more runs.
Eslinger scored the last run for the Warriors in the 5th inning.
Bierly and Eslinger each had two hits on three at-bats for the Warriors.
Next up for the softball team is a doubleheader against Graceland University at Lamoni, Iowa on Sunday, March 12thstarting at 12 p.m.
