Warrior Offense Explodes against Dakota State University
FOREST CITY, IA - Waldorf softball split games against Dakota State University yesterday during their own home opener. The Warriors finished the non-conference games losing the first with a score of 11-0 and winning the second with a score of 14-10.
Game 1:
Freshman pitcher Jaycee Plath held the Trojans scoreless through the first, but Dakota State started their scoring streak in the second with 4 runs on a walk, two hits, and an infield error. The Trojans stuttered the scoring in the third and picked up 5 more runs in the fourth and an insurance run in the top of the 5th. Waldorf scored 0 runs on 8 hits and 1 walk.
Senior Timber Oakes went 2 for 3.
Game 2:
In game two, the Warriors sparked the offense and were able to put up 12 in the bottom of the first. Timber Oakes led off with a walk, followed by a Tudon hit by pitch. Maldonado reached on error by the Dakota State shortstop, and Ehlert was walked to bring in the first run for the Warriors. Jenna Busch followed with a two RBI double deep to centerfield, and Gabby Bierly would hit in another with an RBI single to center. Paige Pierson snuck a base hit through the 5-6 hole, and Kierra Lynn Schulz followed with her own single. Reagan Ridout would finish the lineup with a sacrifice bunt to solidify the first out of the inning.
To start the second time through the lineup in the first inning, Timber Oakes would go deep to right field with a 3 run home run. Four more hits, a walk, and a reach on error would tally the runs to 12.
The second inning would be the last time the Warriors scored during the game. Oakes would go for a two out single, Tudon would take a second hit by pitch, Maldonado would single to right field, and two more singles from Ehlert and Busch would tack on two more resulting in a 14 run total.
Freshman pitcher Reagan Ridout would hold the Trojan offense to two runs through the third. Dakota State would capture one run in the 4th with a lead off double and a couple infield ground balls. In the fifth they scored seven, decreasing the deficit to four runs on 6 hits, 2 errors, and 3 walks. Ridout would return to the game and shut down the opponent in the 6th and 7th to claim her first collegiate win.
Timber Oakes went 3 for 4 with a double, homerun, 3 runs scored, and 3 RBIS.
Jenna Busch went 2 for 4 with a double, 2 runs scored, and 3 RBIS.
The Warriors will begin conference play this coming weekend against Doane on Friday at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM. They will play Hastings on Saturday also at 1:00 and 3:00 PM. Both double-headers will be at home.
