Softball Drops Two to Doane in Conference Opener
SIOUX CENTER, IA - Waldorf softball couldn't handle Doane's offense in their conference opener on Friday evening. Waldorf had to move their previously scheduled home games to the Sioux Center dome due to weather. Doane took game one 9-1 in five innings and took game two 17-7 in six innings.
Game One:
The Tigers started the scoring early picking up four in the top of the first off of 3 hits and two walks. The Warriors went three up three down in the frame of the inning. Doane scored another in the top of the second and 4 more in the top of the third. After the third, they were shut down in order. Freshman Ridout retired the side in the top of the 5th with 3 strikeouts. Waldorf attempted to keep the game going in the bottom of the fifth. Alyssa Maldonado would reach on a leadoff walk. Freshman Maili Jackson would pinch run for her and end up scoring on a wild pitch, base hit from Noemi Tudon, and a RBI ground out from Kierra Lynn Schulz. Unfortunately, the inning would end on back to back strikeouts.
Paige Pierson was 1 for 2 with a double.
Noemi Tudon was 1 for 2.
Game Two:
Jaycee Plath would set the Tigers down in order in the top of the first for a great start to game two. The Warriors would jump on the board early in their half of the inning. Timber Oakes would get on via lead off hit by pitch and eventually score on an infield error. The Tigers would tie the game in the top of the second and would not score again until the 4th.
Waldorf would add four more runs in the bottom of the second. Tudon led off with a double, followed by a double by Paige Pierson, and Dionne Lopez reached on error. Oakes would double to the left center field gap for 2 RBIs. In the third, Tudon would walk to get things going, Schulz followed with her own walk. A Gabby Bierly ground out to the right side would bring in the 6th run for the Warriors. The last run of the game for the Warriors would come from Timber Oakes on an RBI single to left field.
The Tigers would come back with an eleven run 6th inning to take the lead and eventually the game. In the 6th they scored from 9 hits and 3 walks. Ridout would take the loss for the Warriors.
Timber Oakes was 3 for 3 with two doubles and a hit by pitch.
Noemi Tudon was 1 for 3 with a double.
Paige Pierson was 1 for 3 with a double.
The Warriors will travel to Dakota State University on Tuesday March 25th for a non-conference double header at 3:00 and 5:00 PM.
