Waldorf battles Clarke tough at home
FOREST CITY, Iowa - After a week and a half off, the Waldorf women's basketball team was back on the home court Wednesday night for a non-conference tilt against Clarke, a team that won the NAIA national championship two years ago. The Warriors stayed with Clarke until the Pride pulled away in the fourth quarter to gain a 69-56 win.
Clarke raced out to a 7-0 lead before Waldorf settled down. Myia Ruzek got Waldorf on the board with a 3. They pulled within 3 at 10-7 after a Brooke Dial jumper. The Clarke lead remained at 3 at 17-14 after the first quarter. Early in the second quarter, an Edosa Ogbemudia layup pulled the Warriors within 2 at 21-19. The Pride though extended their lead up to 10 later in the quarter. They would lead 36-27 at the half.
Brooke Dial led a charge out of the locker room. She made her first three shots of the second half. A 3 pulled Waldorf within 38-34. She later assisted on a Ruzek layup to pull Waldorf within 2 at 38-36. Waldorf kept things close throughout most of the quarter before Clarke extended their edge to 50-44 going into the fourth quarter. Clarke would double their advantage to 12 to 60-48 with 6:36 remaining. Their lead got as big as 18 late in the game.
Dial led all scorers with 24 points. Ogbemudia added 13 points.
Waldorf (0-2) is back in action Sunday at McPherson.
