Women’s Basketball Fall to #13 Trojans

MADISON, S.D. – The Waldorf women's basketball team competed against the No. 13 Dakota State Trojans on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors were defeated 83-51.
"We started slow against one of the best teams in the country, but our players responded well in the 2nd half," Head Coach Shawn Chaffin stated.
1st Quarter: Brooke Dial (FR/Dallas, TX) scored the first six points for the Warriors with three jump shots. The Trojans tied the game six and then went on an 11-0 run. Sophia Laurel (FR/Santa Maria, CA) made a jump shot and Edosa Ogbemudia (SO/East Bethel, MN) went 2-2 from the free throw. The Trojans were up 22-11.
2nd Quarter: The Trojans started the quarter with six straight points. Sandra Christian (SR/Gainesville, TX) stopped the run with a three-pointer. Dakota State extended their lead to 46-16 with one minute left in the half. Fatou Barry (JR/Gwinnett, GA) and Camryn McQuery (JR/Waseca, MN) added jump shots to bring the score to 48-20.
3rd Quarter: Barry and Lizzie Garza (SR/Brownsville, TX) made back-to-back field goals. Ogbemudia came up with a defensive block and transitioned into a made field goal, assisted by Garza. Barry, Dial, and Garza all scored two points in a row. Garza drained a three-pointer with just under three minutes in the quarter. The Trojans closed out the third with four points to maintain their lead 69-35.
4th Quarter: McQuery and Barry each made two free throws. Dial added a layup and went 4-4 from the free throw line. Ogbemudia made a field goal and Dearia Keaton added two free throws. The Trojans won 83-51.
Chaffin added, "It will be nice getting back home for some games having been on the road for 10 of our last 11 games."
Dial finished with a team high of 14 points with 4 rebounds. Barry had 9 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists. Ogbemudia added 8 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 assists, and 1 steal. Garza tallied 8 points and 9 rebounds.
The Warriors will return to their home court for a conference game against Dickinson State on Friday, January 26th starting at 5:30 pm.
