Warriors Battle Against Pioneers

GRINNELL, IA – After a two-week break, the Waldorf women's basketball team returned to play for a matchup against the NCAA Division III Grinnell College Pioneers on Sunday afternoon. The Warriors were defeated in a close game losing 74-70.
The Warriors opened the game with an 8-point run over the Pioneers with Deaira Keaton (JR/Minneola, FL) and Sandra Christian (SR/Gainesville, TX) making threes. Grinnell had the lead at 20-17 before Christian and Sophia Laurel (FR/Santa Maria, CA) made back-to-back 3-pointers to take the lead. The Warriors were down at the half, 45-38.
In the 3rd quarter, Grinnell took a 10-point lead. The Warriors worked their way to score 11 straight points to take the lead at 51-50. Alyah Abrahamson (SO/Browersville, MN) ended the quarter with a layup, going up 56-55.
Grinnell took the lead with a quick layup to start the 4th quarter. Waldorf brought the game within 1 point five times, but Grinnell took the win, 74-70.
"Had our chances this afternoon but couldn't convert a couple opportunities at the end," stated Head Coach Shawn Chaffin. "We battled hard again to come back but fell short. Looking forward to getting back to work for Saturday's home game."
Lizzie Garza (SR/Brownsville, TX) finished with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, with 3 assists, and 1 steal. Brooke Dial (FR/Dallas, TX) also added 12 points with 7 rebounds and Christian tallied 9 points.
Next up, the Warriors will host McPherson College on Saturday, November 25th starting at 1 pm with the men's game to follow.
