Women’s Basketball Battle Against Bruins

BELLEVUE, NE – The Waldorf women's basketball team had their third NSAA conference game against the Bellevue Bruins on Friday evening. The Warriors suffered a 73-62 defeat.
1st Quarter: Brooke Dial (FR/Dallas, TX) scored back-to-back three pointers and Edosa Ogbemudia (SO/East Bethel, MN) added a layup to take an 8-5 lead. Lizzie Garza (SR/Brownsville, TX) made a jump shot and Dial made two free-throws. The Bruins made three points to close out the quarter and the Warriors were up 16-15.
2nd Quarter: The Bruins tied the game at 18 and added seven straight points. Dial stopped the run with a three. Camryn McQuery (JR/Waseca, MN) and Fatou Barry (JR/Gwinnett, GA) each made a jump shot. The Bruins maintained their lead to end the half, 41-29.
3rd Quarter: The Bruins extended the lead 47-30 before Ogbemudia and Barry each made two free-throws. Garza forced a Bruin turnover with a steal and got an assist from Dial draining a three. The Warriors were down 63-45.
4th Quarter: The Warriors started the quarter with a 10-3 run over the Bruins. Dial scored five straight points and Barry made a jump shot to bring the game within nine points but the Bruins secured the win, 73-62.
"Proud of how hard we battled, especially after we dug ourselves a little whole," stated Head Coach Shawn Chaffin. "This has traditionally been a tough place for us, and we worked to change that."
Dial finished with a team high of 24 points and 7 rebounds. Ogbemudia added 10 points with 8 rebounds and Barry had 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Sandra Christian (SR/Gainesville, TX) tallied 6 assists.
The Warriors will be back in conference play tomorrow with an away game against Dakota State University tomorrow, January 20th. Tip-off is at 3 pm.
