Warriors Edged by Knights in Non-Conference Showdown

NEW ULM, MN – The Waldorf women's basketball team was back in action for a matchup against the NCAA Division III Martin Luther Knights. The Warriors fell short, losing 57-50.
1st Quarter: Sandra Christian (SR/Gainesville, TX) made a go-ahead three pointer and Alyah Abrahamson (SO/Browersville, MN) tied the game, 8-8 with another three. Lizzie Garza (SR/Brownsville, TX) added a third three-pointer for the Warriors. Camryn McQuery (JR/Waseca, MN) went 2-2 from the free throw to go up 13-12 over the Knights.
2nd Quarter: Edosa Ogbemudia (SO/East Bethel, MN) scored the first four points for the Warriors. The Knights drained a three to go up 20-17. Garza added two made three throws and Martin Luther added two free throws to take the lead going into the half, 22-20.
3rd Quarter: The Knights started the second half by scoring three straight three-pointers take a 10-point lead at 31-21. Brooke Dial (FR/Dallas, TX) grabbed an offensive rebound and got fouled on a made shot for a three-point play. The Knights were up by 8-points. Dial and Christian made back-to-back threes and Ogbemudia added two points to tie the game before the Knights scored a jump shot.
4th Quarter: Cloey Dmytruk (SO/St. Paul, MN) opened the quarter with a quick jump shot to tie the game, 36-36. Dial scored four points to take the lead 44-43 with just under 4 minutes remaining. The Knights drained three straight three-pointers to secure a win, 57-50.
"We played really well defensively, but for the third straight game, we really struggled offensively," stated Head Coach Shawn Chaffin.
Dial finished with a team high of 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 steals. Ogbemudia was close behind with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Lindsay Field (SR/Eyota, MN) grabbed 8 rebounds, with 2 steals, and 1 assist and Fatou Barry (JR/Gwinnett, GA) added 3 steals.
Next up, the women's basketball team will be back on the road for a game against NCAA Division III University of Minnesota Morris on Monday, December 11th. Tipoff is at 5:30 pm.
