Women’s Basketball Drops to McPherson at Home

FOREST CITY, IA – The Waldorf women's basketball team returned to their home court for a non-conference game against the McPherson College Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors were defeated 65-59.
1st Quarter: Lindsay Field (SR/Eyota, MN) opened the game with a jump shot and Sandra Christian (SR/Gainesville, TX) added three points for a 5-0 over the Bulldogs. McPherson tied the game at 10-10 with a three. Alyah Abrahamson (SO/Browersville, MN) made a layup before the Bulldogs took the lead of 21-14 to end the quarter.
2nd Quarter: Cloey Dmytruk (SO/St. Paul, MN) made four points and Edosa Ogbemudia (SO/East Bethel, MN) added a put back from an offensive board to bring the game with in six at 23-29. Lizzie Garza (SR/Brownsville, TX) got fouled on made shot and turned it into a three-point play with a made free throw. The Bulldogs kept the lead at the end of the half, 37-28.
3rd Quarter: Ogbemudia scored six points to start the second half. The Warriors were down by four, 36-40. Field made a jump shot to make it a three point game with just under four minutes left in the quarter. The Bulldogs kept the lead at 47-41.
4th Quarter: The Warriors had their highest scoring quarter with 18 points. Field opened the quarter with a 3-pointer and Brooke Dial (FR/Dallas, TX) added a layup. Garza and Camryn McQuery (JR/Waseca, MN) both scored to bring the game within two points. Dial tied the game at 54 with 3:46 left. Garza scored a layup to take the lead. The Bulldogs extended their lead by five points before Dial drained a three. McPherson responded with a three to win 65-59.
"We really struggled offensively today, not finishing like we usually do, and our execution was not up to our standards," Head Coach Shawn Chaffin stated. "Looking forward to getting back to practice to get ready for Friday!"
Dial finished with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Field added 10 points and 7 rebounds, with 2 assists. Garza tallied 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists and Fatou Barry (JR/Gwinnett, GA) had 4 assists.
Next up, the women's basketball team will be back on the road for a non-conference game against NCAA Division III Martin Luther College on Friday, December 1st. Tip-off is at 7 pm.
