Valley City State Pulls Away from Waldorf in Second Half

VALLEY CITY, ND – The Warriors road was not as kind as the home court last week. Waldorf University battled and stayed close until host Valley City State slowly pulled away in the third quarter on its way to an 87-56 women's hoops decision.
Brooke Dial dialed up the game's opening points on a 3-point only 28 seconds into the contest and it turned out to be the Warriors lone lead of the night. Valley State pushed a five-point game to 11 points in the final six minutes of the opening half and increased it as the third quarter went on from there.
Dial downed one other 3-pointer for Waldorf and finished with team honors of 20 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Fatou Berry was the other double-digit scorer with 10 points and three boards. Lizzie Garza added five points, while Lindsay Field pulled down six rebounds, handed out four assists, swiped four passes and chipped in three points.
Hailey Roberts connected on 11 of 18 field goals, four 3-pointers, for a game-best 34 points for the Vikings.
The Warriors trailed by only a single point two times later in the first 10 minutes, 10-9 and 13-12. Valley City State turned a 7-point advantage into a double figures, 32-22. Behind a Field 3-point play, Waldorf was able to get back to within five, 32-27, at 7:11 in the second period. It would be as close as the team was able to get over the final 27 minutes.
Waldorf did score the opening two field goals of the second half, both by Dial, to get the difference under 10 points at 46-37.
Waldorf will now return home to for a Wednesday evening (Feb. 14) contest against Viterbo College starting at 5:30 p.m.
