Waldorf holds off Mount Marty in thrilling 69-67 victory
FOREST CITY, Iowa - In a thrilling back-and-forth battle, the Waldorf Warriors came out on top, edging Mount Marty 69-67 in a tense women's basketball matchup on Saturday night. The game, filled with momentum swings and clutch performances, saw Waldorf's balanced attack lead them to their hard-fought win.
Brooke Dial, a standout player for the Warriors, delivered a strong performance with 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals. Dial's all-around effort was critical in helping Waldorf maintain their lead throughout the game, despite Mount Marty's valiant efforts to rally in the final minutes.
Waldorf's offense was further boosted by Myia Ruzek, who added 12 points and 5 assists, while Camryn McQuery chipped in with 7 points and a team-high 9 rebounds. Both players made significant contributions in the paint and from beyond the arc, keeping Mount Marty at bay.
Off the bench, Charlotte Mills and Cloey Dmytruk were key in providing a spark, each scoring 8 points and helping the Warriors maintain their energy late in the game.
On the Mount Marty side, Stevi Fallis led the Lancers with 13 points, while Kaela Martinez and Sidney Thue both contributed 12 points apiece. Signe Bang also played a key role in the Lancers' attack, finishing with 11 points. Despite their best efforts, Mount Marty was unable to overcome Waldorf's clutch plays in the closing moments.
"Really proud of how we responded to their rally and we didn't panic," said Waldorf head coach Shawn Chaffin. "We took care of the ball and still got good shots and got fouled in the stretches that we needed to the most. You can see our team grow and mature each day and it has been fun to see how far we have come in such a short period of time."
With the victory, the team will look to build momentum as they head into the next phase of their schedule. Waldorf will resume GPAC play on Tuesday, November 26th at 6:00pm versus Morningside University at home in the Hanson Fieldhouse.
This game was a testament to the Warriors' teamwork and determination, and fans can expect more exciting moments from this young, hungry team as the season progresses.
