Team Defense Helps Secure Win Against Eagles 59-48

ELGIN, IL – The Waldorf women's basketball team returned to action for a non-conference game against the Judson University Eagles on Friday evening. After keeping the Eagles under 10 points in both of the 3rd and 4th quarters, the Warriors came back to win 59-48.
"We bounced back from a rough 1st quarter. Really proud of our team to show the toughness to respond to adversity," stated Head Coach Shawn Chaffin.
1st Quarter: Sandra Christian (SR/Gainesville, TX) started the game with an early three-pointer. Brooke Dial (FR/Dallas, TX) added two points before the Eagles scored six straight points. Camryn McQuery (JR/Waseca, MN) and Edosa Ogbemudia (SO/East Bethel, MN) scored back-to-back layups and Christian made another three to close out the quarter. The Eagles were up 22-13.
2nd Quarter: The Eagles kept their momentum with a 7-0 run. Ogbemudia stopped the run with a layup and Dial added a three. With 3:35 left the Warriors went on a 12-0 run with two three-pointers from Christian. The Warriors trailed by two, 32-30.
3rd Quarter: Two made free-throws from Alyah Abrahamson (SO/Browersville, MN), Lizzie Garza (SR/Brownsville, TX) and Dial added layups to tie the game at 36. The Warriors took a lead with another layup by Dial and Abrahamson drained a three. Waldorf's defense held Judson to nine points.
4th Quarter: McQuery opened the quarter with a layup and Garza added a three-pointer to extend the lead 50-44. The Warriors secured the win by keeping the Eagles to seven points in the fourth quarter. Waldorf won 59-48.
Chaffin added, ""Credit Judson for really coming out tough. Sandra's 3s carried us a bit in the 1st half, and Brooke had a huge 2nd half, but our team defense and willingness to play team basketball on offense was the difference."
Dial finished with a team-high of 16 points and added 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals. Christian had 12 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Ogbemudia added 8 rebounds with 6 points and 3 blocks. McQuery and Lindsay Field each had 4 assists.
The Warriors will have one more game before the New Year tomorrow, Saturday December 30th against Saint Xavier (IL). Tip-off is at 1 pm.
