Warriors Get First Win of Season over Haskell

OMAHA, NE – The Waldorf women's basketball team bounced back quick for a second game at the College of Saint Mary Tournament on Saturday afternoon against Haskell Indian Nations University. After trailing at half, the Warriors won 67-61.
"Great win today over a terrific team that was in the National Tournament last season," stated Head Coach Shawn Chaffin. "Proud of the grit and determination our girls showed tonight. We didn't hit a ton of 3s, but all were timely."
1st Quarter: Haskell started the game with a 7-2 run against Waldorf. Brooke Dial (FR/Dallas, TX) got fouled on a made shot and turned it into a three-point play with a made free throw. Alyah Abrahamson (SO/Browersville, MN) got a steal which converted into two points from Edosa Ogbemudia (SO/East Bethel, MN). The quarter ended in a 20-20 tie.
2nd Quarter: The Warriors were held to just eight points in the second. Haskell extended their lead to nine before Dial stopped the run with a three. Lindsay Field (SR/Eyota, MN) added a made jump shot and Lizzie Garza (SR/Brownsville, TX) hit a free throw. Waldorf trailed at half 28-33.
3rd Quarter: Field tied the game at 34 and Garza's made jump shot took the lead. The Warriors kept the lead with Garza and Dial each making a three. Abrahamson and Dial both made two free throws to end the quarter. The Warriors were up 55-50.
4th Quarter: A steal and made basket from Garza gave the Warriors a six-point lead with six minutes left in the game. With just under three minutes remaining, Field added two more points. Haskell brought the game within three points, but the Warriors secured the win with clutch free throws.
Garza recorded a double-double of 18 points and 15 rebounds; she also had four assists and four steals. Dial added 15 points and eight rebounds. Abrahamson tallied 10 points with three assists and two steals.
Next up, the Warriors will make their home debut with a game against William Penn on Friday, November 3rdat 2 pm.
