Waldorf faces tough loss in GPAC play to Hastings College, 90-68

HASTINGS, Neb - In a fast-paced and high-scoring contest, the Waldorf Warriors fell short to Hastings College, 90-68, in a game that showcased the offensive firepower of both teams. The Warriors struggled to contain the high-scoring efforts of Hastings' key players, who contributed significantly to the Broncos' commanding victory.
Hastings College was led by the dynamic performances of #42 Macy Bryant, who scored a game-high 19 points, and #1 McKenna Yates, who added 14 points. The Broncos also received a strong effort from their bench, with #11 Ann Bose contributing 14 points in relief. Collectively, Hastings displayed balanced shooting and depth, efficiently spreading the scoring load across the roster.
Despite the loss, Waldorf had several standout performances. #32 Brooke Dial led the Warriors with 21 points, four steals, and three assists, showing her versatility as both a scorer and playmaker. Off the bench, Waldorf's #3 Alyah Abrahamson provided a spark, adding 11 points and four assists, while #25 Cloey Dmytruk contributed 10 points.
The game opened with an up-tempo pace, as both teams traded baskets in the first half. Hastings, however, gained an early advantage, thanks in large part to their ball pressure, aggressive offensive rebounding, and second chance points. Bryant's 19-point effort was crucial, especially in the second half, when Hastings was able to pull away with a combination of timely shooting and stifling defense.
Waldorf battled throughout the game, but their offensive efforts were not enough to overcome the Broncos' depth. Despite a solid showing from their reserves, Waldorf struggled to stop Hastings' balanced attack, allowing the Broncos to extend their lead as the game progressed.
Head coach Shawn Chaffin, while disappointed with the loss, praised his team's determination: "We shot it well tonight, just turned it over too many times, leading to too many points off of our own turnovers."
While the loss stings, Waldorf will look to regroup as they prepare for their next matchup against top ranked and defending National Champion No. 1 Dordt University on the road in Sioux Center, IA on Wednesday, November 20th at 6:00pm.
