Warriors Win in Overtime Against Statesmen 74-67

FOREST CITY, IA – The Waldorf women's basketball team made their home court debut with a game against the William Penn University Statesmen on Friday afternoon. After being down at halftime, the Warriors came back to win in overtime 74-67. This marks the first win against the Statesmen since December 3rd, 2011.
"I'm very proud of this group's resiliency and toughness," Head Coach Shawn Chaffin stated. "When we got behind, our players rallied together to make plays."
1st Quarter: The Statesmen started the game with a 4-0 run before the Warriors answered with nine straight points. Back-to-back points from Brooke Dial (FR/Dallas, TX) extended the lead 15-9. Alyah Abrahamson (SO/Browersville, MN) closed out the quarter a layup and the Warriors were up 17-14.
2nd Quarter: William Penn tied the game at 19 with just over five minutes left in the half. After going up by five, Sandra Christian (SR/Gainesville, TX) forced a turnover with a steal and Lizzie Garza (SR/Brownsville, TX) scored. Dial brought the game within one. With one minute 44 second left, the Statesmen got an 11-point lead. Abrahamson hit a three. William Penn was up 36-29.
3rd Quarter: Edosa Ogbemudia (SO/East Bethel, MN) opened the quarter with a six-point run. Two made free-throws from both Fatou Barry (JR/Gwinnett, GA) and Dial made it a four point, 45-49. A steal and a fast break layup from Abrahamson ended the quarter 51-54.
4th Quarter: A made shot from Lindsay Field (SR/Eyota, MN) and a three by Dial tied the game at 58 with four-minutes left. Barry made five points to take the lead 63-62 and Dial added two. The Statesmen made a three to tie the game and force overtime at 65-65.
Overtime: The Warriors came out strong with a 5-0 run against the Statesmen. Dial grabbed a big offensive board and put it up for two points. Waldorf's defense held William Penn to two points in overtime. The Warriors won 74-67.
Chaffin added, "Rebounding was critical as was our half court execution. 38 points from our bench was a huge factor as well. This was a fun win."
Dial finished with a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds. Ogbemudia had 11 points, nine rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. Barry added 13 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Garza tallied eight points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
The women's basketball team has a quick turnaround with another home game tomorrow, Saturday November 4th against Mount Mercy. Tip-off is at 7 pm.
