Exciting Game Ends in a Win for the Warriors

FOREST CITY, Iowa – After a slow start for Waldorf in the 1st quarter, Saturday's game against College of St. Mary came down to the last seconds. The 4th quarter began with the Flames ahead by two points. Waldorf took the lead with 7 minutes remaining, but St. Mary didn't back down and took the lead back with 4 minutes remaining.
With 40 seconds left in the game, the Flames held a five-point lead. Edosa Ogbemudia hit a big 3-pointer assisted by Charlotte Mills to cut the Flames' lead to two points. Waldorf fouled quick to put St. Mary at the free throw line where they hit one of two, giving them a three-point lead. Back on offense, Brooke Dial attacked the basket, drawing the foul and sending her to the line where she made both free throws. Down by one point with 29 seconds, the Warriors fouled again, and St. Mary made both of their free shot attempts. Attacking the basket again, Dial headed to the line, making both free throws and putting the Warriors just one point behind the Flames.
Another quick foul from the Warriors with 21 seconds left sent the Flames back to the free throw line, making one of two. Waldorf, only down two points, put up two shot attempts with Alyah Abrahamson coming away with two important offensive rebounds. With 3 seconds remaining, Abrahamson found Dial for a 3-pointer, draining it and winning the game for the Warriors 73-72.
"Incredibly proud of our team of its resiliency!" Coach Shawn Chaffin said. "We got a couple key offensive rebounds that allowed us the final shot. Edosa's shot was critical too! Brooke had ice water in the veins again. Point guards did a great job taking care of the ball with only four turnovers. Keeping ourselves in the race for postseason!"
After today's game, Dial is now 5th in the country in scoring and the Warriors are one game behind Concordia University for the 8th place tournament spot in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
Waldorf is back on the road on Wednesday, January 22 for a 6pm game against Dakota Wesleyan University.
