Waldorf University is pleased to announce the hiring of Cat Evans as its new Cheerleading Head Coach

FOREST CITY, Iowa - Waldorf University is pleased to announce the hiring of Cat Evans as its new Cheerleading Head Coach.

Evans is an experienced head coach and proven recruiter.  Most recently, Evans served as head spirit coach at Penn State Altoona.  There, she was responsible for all aspects of recruitment, professional development, athlete safety, scheduling, and fundraising.  Prior to Penn State Altoona, Evans spent two years at the helm of NCAA Division II Chadron State College as its head cheer coach.

"Coach Evans is highly respected in the cheerleading coaching community," said Waldorf University Director of Athletics Chad Gassman.  "Her passion for her sport and her work ethic came across in the interview process.  I am eager to see Coach Evans take Waldorf Cheer to the next level," Gassman said.

"I feel extremely welcomed and supported in coming to Waldorf University and prepared to lead the competitive cheer team," said Evans.  "This institution and administration have provided an exceptional foundation to expand on tradition while enhancing the current team and competitive potential for the Warriors. I am ready to give my all to Waldorf University Cheer and produce a great show on the sideline and competition results."

Evans broke into the coaching ranks with six years spent as spirit program director at Wheatland High School in Wheatland, Wyoming.  In 2021, Evans coached the Wyoming State Spirit Coed champions.  The following year, her squad won the Wyoming State Spriit Game Day championship.  The latter achievement earned her 2022 Wyoming 3A Coach of the Year honors.

Evans brings with her an extensive collection of instructional and safety certifications, including those of USA Cheer and USA Gymnastics.

The Waldorf Cheerleading Team performs at all football and men's and women's basketball games.  The team also maintains a rigorous competition schedule, beginning with both the Viking Challenge and the Grand View Invitational on Sunday, January 26, 2025.
